About Us

EAL-Accredited Trainers

We are a team of trained engineers, experienced in the delivery of qualifications and skills.
Skillstart is a centre accredited by EAL for the awarding of:
  • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
  • Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs)

Key Stage 4 & 5 Training

We currently work with schools across Wales, providing vocational training for Key Stage 4 and 5.

We also work in partnership with work-based learning providers and other organisations, offering a flexible service delivering training either at customers' establishments or at our specially equipped centre in Cardigan.

Key Stage 4

National Vocational Qualifications and Vocationally Related Qualifications at Level 1 and 2.

Optional units include:

Metal based courses
  • Practical hand fitting techniques
  • Practical sheet metal and assembly techniques
  • Practical mechanical assembly techniques 
Wood based courses
  • Practical use of wood for engineering application
  • Practical assembly of engineering woodwork components
  • Practical 2D CAD draughting techniques 
2D, 3D modelling and printing courses
  • Practical 2D CAD draughting techniques
  • Practical 3D CAD modelling
  • Practical additive manufacturing (3D printing)

Key Stage 5

  • Level 3 subsidiary diploma in Engineering Technologies (A Level equivalent)  
  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies (1.5 A Level equivalent)

  • Registration and certification with the awarding body 
  • A curriculum portfolio for each student 
  • Prepared project materials (we keep supplying these until the student completes the course)

  • Feedback and mentoring for delivery staff

Engineering Skills Training 

We offer a selection of tailored engineering training programmes to suit customers' requirements, either to gain accredited qualifications or to develop and enhance technical skills.

We are able to offer a range of engineering services to include:
  • Welding, including stainless steel and aluminium
  • Specialist production of machined parts
  • Maintenance of workshop equipment
